Understanding what matters mostSustainability covers a wide range of issues, so one of the most important steps is deciding where to focus. In the report, we share how we carried out a materiality assessment to identify the topics most relevant to our business, our value chain and our people. Environmental sustainabilityEnvironmental sustainability is the largest focus within our current strategy, reflecting both the scale of our footprint and the expectations placed on infrastructure supply chains. In the report, we outline how we are building our approach around robust data, third-party verification and a clearer understanding of where impacts occur across our value chain. The report explores our carbon baseline, the sources that matter most, and how our decarbonisation pathway is being shaped around the areas of greatest impact. It also explains why logistics, supplier engagement and long-term product performance are such important parts of the conversation. Sustainable products, durability and transparencyA more transparent and life-cycle focused product approach is not only about what happens before installation. It is also about what happens over the decades that follow. Our report highlights the importance of long service life, reduced replacement demand and better lifecycle outcomes across the infrastructure products we supply. It also outlines how we are supporting transparency through independently verified Environmental Product Declarations across our ductile ironwork range, helping customers access standardised lifecycle information when they need it. This section of the report is designed for customers who want to understand how durability, compliance and transparent product data all contribute to more informed specification and better long-term decision-making.
Turning awareness into actionOur report also highlights the role infrastructure can play in public awareness and environmental protection. Through The Sea Starts Here initiative, we are helping make the connection between roadside drainage, local watercourses and the wider natural environment more visible in the public realm. Alongside this, the report outlines how we support practical action through our work with the Canal & River Trust, including environmental improvement activity and colleague engagement. These examples show how sustainability is not only about internal performance, but also about the role we can play in wider environmental understanding and stewardship. Our priorities for 2026-2027Over the 2026-2027 period, our focus is on delivery and measurable progress. The report sets out the priority areas guiding our next phase, including renewable electricity transition, transport-related emissions reduction, stronger responsible sourcing governance, continued investment in safety and skills, and the next steps in our Net Zero plans. It also highlights important progress already made, including our EcoVadis Silver rating and our intention to seek validation of our targets through the Science Based Targets initiative.
