The Sneddon Law Community Wind Farm in East Ayrshire, Scotland is set to deliver 15 wind turbines – each 130 metres tall from bottom to tip. However, before the project could get underway, we were brought in to help lay the groundwork.

With a combined output of 30 megawatts, the 15 turbines will be a huge help to the area, able to power nearly 30,000 homes and displace more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Having been approved in 2014, the project was already a long time into development when we were brought on to provide a solution. At this stage, it was crucial that the project was not further delayed because of poor ground conditions, when so close to finish.

We were brought in by Community Wind Power, the project developers leading the project, to design and supply SX3030 geogrid and our MultiTrack nonwoven geotextile, chosen for their superior performance and availability.

Campbell Duncan of Duncan Plant said: “We had used Geoworks's products on a previous scheme and were very impressed with the final results. For this project, the solution required some redesigning to help them better complete their purpose and work better with our own materials. However, Geoworks was very accommodating in helping us through this design process and testing each iteration.

“Ultimately, we were very impressed again with the finished products and Geoworks itself. Because of Geoworks the Sneddon Law Community Wind Farm is closer to completion, and closer to supporting the local area with clean, renewable power.”

Additionally, the different designs, tests, and iterations we developed to solve this issue illustrates our ability to adapt our products to specific needs. Two layers of geogrid and one layer of geotextile later, the site now has the sturdy ground it needs.”
