WeedShield and FasTrack Shield installation instructions

Introduction

By following these instructions, your WeedShield fabric will provide effective weed suppression, allowing you to enjoy a low-maintenance and tidy garden space. Please note that WeedShield isn’t designed to suppress all weeds and special care should be paid to invasive weeds.

Preparation

  • Clear the Area: Remove all existing weeds, debris, and stones from the area where WeedShield is to be installed. We recommend applying a suitable weed killer at this stage. For the best results, the ground should be as smooth and flat as possible.
  • Soil Amendments (Optional): If you wish to improve your soil, add any soil amendments before laying the fabric. This could include compost or fertilizer.

Installation

  • Measure and Cut: Roll out WeedShield fabric over the prepared area. Use the tape measure to help cut the fabric to the required size, allowing 10cm of overlap at the seams if you are covering a larger area.
  • Secure the Edges (optional): Secure the fabric into the ground using garden staples or fabric pegs. Place them at the edges of the fabric and at seams every 60cm to prevent any movement.
  • Overlap Seams: If your area requires multiple pieces of WeedShield, make sure each piece overlaps by at least 10cm to prevent weeds from growing through the gaps.
  • Cut X's for Plants: If you're installing WeedShield in an area with existing plants, carefully cut an X where the plant is and fold back the flaps. If you're planting new plants, cut an X where each plant will go, dig a hole, and plant as usual. Be sure to fold the fabric as close to the base of the plants as possible and secure it.
  • Cover with Mulch or Gravel (Optional): For aesthetic purposes and to further protect the fabric, cover it with mulch, bark, or gravel. This layer should be at least 7.5cm deep.

Aftercare

  • Check periodically to ensure the fabric remains wellsecured.
  • Add more mulch or gravel as needed to keep the fabric covered and the area looking tidy.

Tips

  • Water the soil thoroughly before laying the fabric to ensure the ground is moist.
  • Avoid stretching the fabric too tightly; it should lay flat against the soil but still have some give.
