Our technical team was contacted in August 2020 by contractor Interserve (now Tilbury Douglas), which made the improvements on behalf of Suffolk County Council, after the groundworker needed assistance mitigating issues caused by soft ground in the sub-formation near where the link road was being constructed – bringing the project to a halt.
Our geogrids team value-engineered a fit-for-purpose adoptable road for a new Derby housing development, working with the city council, William Davis Homes and S&L Groundworks. This project demonstrates how value engineering solutions such as geogrids can be used to solve general and site-specific issues for the housing sector.
Working with J. Murphy & Sons and Balfour Beatty we helped with the construction of a ten-kilometre haul road to support the first UK nuclear power station to be built in over 20 years. When complete, Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around six million homes across the South West.
The existing stop butts at Whittington Ranges had not been used for many years and had fallen into a state of disrepair. Our client was tasked with reinstating the stop butts and bringing them up to current safety standards so that the range could be re-opened for use by the armed forces.
Fallow Park is an exclusive housing development on the outskirts of Cannock. A 1400m2 ornamental pond with green space was designed to enhance the development and provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife. The ground conditions and nature of the finished pond meant that an impermeable membrane would be required to line the pond.
We were approached by Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Limited, and Atkins to advise on a suitable geotextile to go beneath rock armour as a heavy-duty separation and filtration layer. The geotextile would form part of the necessary repair work to Network Rail Wales’ embankment at Old Colwyn, Conwy. The project is one of a series of schemes along the North Wales coastline where we have supplied their Multitrack geotextile to Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Limited.
We were approached by Severn Trent’s contractor to discuss the creation of site access and a proposed working platform to be installed at the sewage treatment works at Earl Shilton, southwest of Leicester. The proposed plant for the site works required temporary works access as well as a working platform for the concrete pump and hydraulic (Kobelco CKE700) crawler crane.
When Colchester Cemetery and Crematorium needed to increase the space visitors had to park their cars, its options were limited. The only potential area it identified was within a copse of established oak and maple trees. The use of ProtectaWeb for this project enabled it to go ahead with minimal tree felling and maximum land use.
